Malacañang condemned the attack by still unidentified men in the printing plant of the Abante News group, the leading all-Filipino news website and tabloid in the Philippines, early Monday.

Four masked gunmen forced their way into the newspaper plant in Parañaque City and set fire to the printing machines and supplies, leaving two workers with injuries.

In a statement, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said this attack is an affront to press freedom.

“I totally denounce this cowardly act against a respected news organization such as Abante. There is no room for media violence in this administration,” added Andanar.

Andanar and Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra also instructed the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

“I will assure you that we will leave no stone unturned in pursuing this case and we will get to the bottom of this,” said PTFoMS Executive Director Joel Sy Egco.
