In his recent public engagements, President Rodrigo Duterte, whose health has been subject to speculation, was seen wearing a rectangle-shaped device on his chest.
Duterte wore it again during the visit of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in Malacañang Friday.
“That is an air purifier,” Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo told reporters.
Panelo explained that the air purifier device will protect Duterte “from persons within his proximity who have coughs and colds.”
Based on photos released by Malacañang, Duterte first wore the neckpiece at the 42nd Cabinet Meeting at the Malacañang Palace held last October 11.
He was also seen using it during the joint Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police Command Conference on October 15; meeting with the Philippine contingent to the 46th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (October 15); meeting with the Filipino athletes who have brought home medals from various international competitions (October 16); meeting with World Championships of Performing Arts medalist Joanna Miranda (October 16); switch-on celebration of San Buenaventura Power project (October 16); and during the 45th Philippine Business Conference and Expo (October 17).
