Malacañang on Thursday thanked the Senate for passing a bill granting President Rodrigo Duterte the special power to cut red tape and shorten government transactions.
“Thank you very Senate President Tito Sotto. Thank you very much to Senator Bong Go and the other authors of this bill,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
Voting 23-0, the senators passed Senate Bill No. (SBN) 1844 or the proposed “Anti-Red Tape Act” on third and final reading Wednesday, on the same day Duterte certified the measure as urgent.
SBN 1844 seeks to authorize the President to expedite the processing and issuance of national and local permits, licenses, and certifications during national emergencies.
The measure likewise empowers the chief executive to remove or suspend non-compliant government officials or employees.
