Palace negates Imee Marcos: Face shield use can protect people from Covid-19

Malacañang on Friday disagreed on the pronouncement of Senator Imee Marcos questioning the mandatory use of face shields for passengers and drivers of public transportation.
Yesterday, Marcos asserted that the new health protocol is only an additional financial burden to Filipinos who are already struggling to survive the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“Hindi pa naman ito requirement na isuot all the time kahit saan. Ang basehan ng DOTr (Department of Transportation) siyensa po,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in his virtual presser.
Under the DOTr’s new policy, public transport commuters and drivers are required to wear face masks and face shields beginning August 15 as a preventive measure against the viral illness.
“Napatunayan na mas makakatulong na maiwasan ang paghawa sa Covid-19 pag meron pong face shield sa mga pampublikong sasakyan bukod pa sa face mask,” according to Roque.
Marcos has also proposed that face coverings should be distributed among the poor for free.
