Palace on Cayetano-Velasco speakership issue: Walang advice ang Pangulo

Malacañang on Thursday distanced itself from the supposed ouster plot against Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
President Rodrigo Duterte does not meddle in the affairs of the House of Representatives, his spokesman Salvador Panelo told reporters.
“Walang advice ang Pangulo. Kung ano yung pinakasunduan nila, eh di sila dapat ang mag resolve nun,” added Panelo.
“The President does not (interfere) unless you ask him to intercede on their behalf… That’s the internal affair of Congress. Hindi siya makikialam diyan unless you ask him to settle whatever rift they have if there is any.”
Asked if Duterte is still satisfied with how Cayetano is handling the Lower House, Panelo said: “He has not complained. I have not heard him of any remark.”
July last year, Duterte brokered the term-sharing agreement between Cayetano and Rep. Lord Allan Velasco. Under the deal, Cayetano will sit as Speaker for the first 15 months of the 18th Congress while Velasco will assume the position for 21 months.
