Palace: Palawan division won’t benefit China

By Prince Golez

The creation of three new Palawan provinces won’t strengthen China’s position in the West Philippine Sea, Malacanang said.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the remark in response to the statement of Senator Risa Hontiveros that China will not have the opportunity to “infiltrate” and “influence” Palawan after the President signed a measure dividing the area into three provinces.

“No connection eh. Kahit naman walang probinsya, kung gustong mag infiltrate ng mga lokong yan eh. It does not, parang walang connection naman yun, di ba,” said Panelo in a media briefing on Monday.

He added that a divided Palawan will ensure faster delivery of needed basic services.

“Every creation nga precisely is to respond to the needs, to the delivery of basic services, yung problema ng tao sa mga lugar na yun,” the chief presidential legal counsel concluded.
