Malacañang said it respects the statement of United States (US) President Donald Trump that the Philippines’ decision to abrogate its Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States (US) would save them money.

“Well, we can understand. Again, as I said, when you do something that is unsatisfactory to the other side, natural lang iyon na may sasabihin sila,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview with radio dzBB

“We respect that the way they should respect ours,” added Panelo.

In an interview at the Oval Office in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, Trump downplayed the abrogation of the two-decades military agreement, saying such a move was “fine.”

“I never minded that very much, to be honest. If they would like to do that, that’s fine. We’ll save a lot of money. You know, my views are different than other people. I view it as, ‘thank you very much. We save a lot of money’,’ Duterte’s US counterpart said.
