Echoing the statement of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Malacanang has urged Filipino fishermen to avoid Panatag Shoal “in the meatime.”

This, after BFAR advised local fishermen to stay away from Panatag “for the meantime” after the camp of senatorial bet Neri Colmenares released a short video claiming that the Chinese are still harassing them.

“Kung yun ang feeling nila, siguro wala namang mawawala kung hindi natin sundin,” presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo told reporters.

If the presence of Chinese vessels at Panatag endangers the safety of Filipino fishermen, Panelo said they should not fish in the area “in the meantime, in the meanwhile.”

Last March 30, BFAR National Director Eduardo Gongona asked Filipino fishers to “concentrate on our municipal waters kasi yun nga ang pinangingisdaan natin.”

Gongona added, “Just be careful at may mga dapat tayong pang-ilagan for the meantime.”
