Malacañang is unsure if President Rodrigo Duterte will certify as urgent a bill that will increase the wage of nurses in private hospitals.

Presidential son and Deputy Speaker for Political Affairs Paolo Duterte filed House Bill No. 7569 or the “Mininum Wage for Nurses in the Private Sector Act of 2020” that aims to match the salary of nurses in the private sector with their government counterparts.

“Hindi ko po sigurado kung ma ise-certify as urgent yan. Pero siyempre suportado ng Presidente ang kanyang anak,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser Tuesday.

“Tama naman po yung bill dahil kinakailangan naman talagang itaas ang sahod ng mga nurses sa pampribadong ospital, ipantay man lang sa sweldo ng nurses sa pampublikong ospital. Maraming salamat Deputy Speaker Duterte,” added Roque.

Per Department of Labor and Employment, private nurses in the Philippines only receive an average of P9,757 per month while the average salary for state nurses ranges from P19,845 to P30,531 each month.
