Malacañang has encouraged all local leaders to set politics aside following Tuesday afternoon’s earthquake in Eastern Samar.
“We call on all local government executives to be on standby. Let us set aside politics for the time being and let the true spirit of unity, cooperation and humanitarianism prevail,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Eastern Samar at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday.
Panelo also assured everyone that the government is on top of the situation and ready to provide immediate assistance.
“Concerned disaster agencies of the government, including those involved in the provision of basic and health services, are now working round the clock to ensure government service delivery remains unhampered,” the chief presidential legal counsel said.
