Malacañang on Thursday welcomed the goal of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for the Philippines to achieve a “coinless society” in 2025.
“We welcome this dahil ang isang karanasan natin sa Covid-19 eh kinakailangan maging cashless society na nga po tayo,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Thursday.
Roque also expressed support for the BSP’s plan that 50 percent of all transactions will be done digitally by 2023.
“Alam naman natin yung paghawak ng pera isa po yang napatunayan ng pamamaraan kung paano kumakalat ang Covid-19,” he added.
Diokno on Wednesday said that small transactions would be replaced by quick response codes that will be available through the national identification system.
