Malacañang welcomed on Sunday the decision of DMCI President and CEO Isidro Consunji to compensate the homeowners of the Ecoland 4000 condominium in Davao City that suffered structural damage following a 6.5-magnitude earthquake last October.

The settlement will help them in their transfer of residence and recovery from the unfortunate event, according to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.

Andanar said the issue would have not been resolved equitably had it not been for President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a speech in Cotabato last Friday, Duterte threatened to deny mining permits for Consunji, who also runs coal mines under Semirara Mining and Power Corporation.

“Businesses and firms should not wait to be called out by President Duterte as having certain issues that are burdening their clients,” the chief of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said.

Andanar also urged all businesses “to be sensitive to and have the interests and needs of their clients at heart” and “to be compliant to the standards and relevant legislations.”
