Pampapogi sa SONA! Hontiveros slams Palace for late announcement of ‘Bawal Bastos’ law
Senator Risa Hontiveros has slammed the administration for allegedly trying to score brownie points by belatedly announcing the signing of Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act.
Hontiveros said she found it “odd” that Malacañang only released a copy of the law Tuesday (July 16), or three months after Duterte signed it.
She believes the belated release of the law’s signed copy is an attempt to beef up the President’s portfolio ahead of his State of the Nation Address on July 22.
“This is an attempt to rob women and the LGBT community of our historic victory, whitewash the president’s unparalleled sexism and misogyny and claim the law as their own achievement leading to the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA),” Hontiveros said.
Nevertheless, the senator urged Duterte to lead its implementation despite being criticized over his alleged sexist remarks.
“No one is above the law, not least a law which he (Duterte) himself has signed. I challenge the president to follow and set an example not only as a law-abiding citizen but as a leader who respects everyone,” Hontiveros said.
