Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar slammed Senators Panfilo Lacson, Imee Marcos, and Nancy Binay for criticizing the government’s response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Lacson earlier said the country’s Covid-19 response efforts seemed to be on “autopilot” with no one in charge while Binay scored the “ningas cogon” attitude of some government officials in following minimum health protocols. Marcos, on one hand, said the Philippines endured “one horrific year” of pandemic.
“To say that the Duterte administration’s response is on ‘autopilot’ is to belittle the expertise of those in the recommendatory and implementary bodies who have put in hard work and dedication to address the health issue since day one,” Andanar said, reacting to Lacson’s statement.
He added that decisions on quarantine restrictions are based on data and information.
As to Binay’s and Marcos’ remarks, the PCOO chief said they “reflect a faulty understanding or bailiwick-driven politics.”
These allegations “disregard the hard work and sacrifice of our medical frontliners and government officials” and are “an unnecessary form of politicking and electioneering at a time when we should be focusing on addressing the surge in cases,” according to him.
Meanwhile, Andanar assured everyone that the administration is “ceaseless” in its efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“We recognize the hard work of our government officials and medical frontliners and ask that they continue their efficient and effective service for our collective recovery,” he said.
