Panalo commuters! Poe hails pilot operation of motorcycle taxis
The continuation of the pilot operation of motorcycle taxi is “a triumph” for commuters in need of alternative mode of transportation.
Senator Grace Poe stressed this on Tuesday as the technical working group (TWG) under the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) backpedaled in its decision to terminate the pilot testing for motorcycle taxis.
Antonio Gardiola Jr., TWG head, on Monday said he had cancelled the pilot run for motorcycle taxis such as Angkas, JoyRide, and MoveIt, supposedly due to some “legal impediments.”
But senators rejected Gardiola’s reasoning in cancelling the pilot study as they noted that his move was an act of “vengeance.”
“Traffic congestion and the rising demand for mobility are pressing reasons for us to consider regulating the motorcycle taxi industry,” Poe said.
“We hope the concerned agencies will devote adequate time and effort to thoroughly study its viability and safety, and come up with a comprehensive report that could aid Congress in legislating appropriate law,” she said.
