Panelo clarifies: Larry Gadon not lawyering for Duterte admin
By Prince Golez
“Larry Gadon has nothing to do with us.”
This was what Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo had to say in the wake of the Philippine National Police’s filing of sedition cases against Vice President Leni Robredo and other members of the opposition.
In an interview with ANC on Friday, Panelo outright rejected claims that the administration was behind the filing of said charges before the Department of Justice.
The complaint was based on the sworn statement of Peter Joemel Advincula, the man who claimed to be “Bikoy” in the “Ang Totoong Narco-list” videos accusing the family and allies of President Rodrigo Duterte of benefitting from the illegal drug trade.
Advincula is represented by lawyer Gadon, a Duterte supporter and vocal Marcos loyalist.
“Larry Gadon is a lawyer who takes client. If he supported the President when he ran for the presidency, you cannot take that away from him. Pero iko-connect mo iyong lawyering niya sa adminis—definitely it’s fallacious,” Duterte’s mouthpiece said.
In 2017, Gadon filed an impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes, who was eventually unseated by a quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
