Panelo hits Poe for refusing Duterte emergency powers vs traffic: ‘It will haunt her’

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo took a potshot at Senator Grace Poe for opposing the grant of emergency powers to President Rodrigo Duterte to address the country’s traffic woes.
“From the very start obviously the grant of emergency power would have helped a lot. Since kinontra nya ‘yun (she opposed it)… it will haunt her when the time comes,” Panelo said in an interview with CNN Philippines Wednesday.
Poe is the current chairperson of the Senate public service panel that conducts hearings on emergency powers.
Yesterday, Duterte said he has given up on his plan to address the EDSA traffic, saying he is about to end his term of office.
“Iyong EDSA na iyan, sabi nila ganoon-ganoon. Sabi ko nung narinig ko, sabi ko wag na. So ngayon gusto nilang i-revive. Ilang buwan na lang, two years and so many months, hindi ko na iyan matatapos; pagkatapos niyan, sabihin pa ng mga tao nag-iwan ng project ito si Duterte, hindi tapos, kinurakot siguro iyong pera,” he explained.
Panelo, meanwhile, said Duterte can veto a bill that would give him emergency powers for traffic.
“Hindi natin alam kung ano ang gagawin nya. He can veto it.
“Ang sinasabi ni Presidente, ‘noon ko pa kasi hinihingi sa Inyo iyan, ayaw ninyong ibigay sa akin, kung anu-anongg mga… pinagdududahan ninyo ako, di bahala na kayo’,” he added.
