Panelo’s ‘nonsense’ quip draws rebuke from Lagman: What a lame rebuttal
Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman’s word war with Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo intensified on Saturday as the former called the latter’s “nonsense” remark “lame” and “with no sense.”
“Labelling a serious critical comment against the President’s repeated blocking of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal as ‘nonsense’ is a lame rebuttal which has no sense,” Lagman said.
He was responding to Panelo’s comment describing as “nonsense” Lagman’s warning that the Duterte administration’s blocking of the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise was an infringement on the freedom of the press.
Lagman said Panelo, whom he described as the “presidential chief apologist,” was the one who was talking nonsese with his “evasive repartee.”
“Moreover, likening to EJK of press freedom the President’s consistent obstruction to the renewal of the franchise of the network giant for purported personal grievances is relevant as the blood of mostly poor victims continues to flow and stains this Administration’s human rights record,” he said.
EJK stands for extrajudicial killings.
“EJK is being perpetuated not only in the war against illegal drugs but in the curtailment of legitimate broadcast operations and the exercise of the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression and free press which are fundamental civil and human rights,” Lagman said.
