Pangasinan town mayor calls on residents to evacuate due to flooding
Bani, Pangasinan Mayor Gwen Yamamoto is appealing to her constituents to temporarily leave their homes as floodwater spawned by two weeks of monsoon rains continues to rise, worsened by the rise of tidal water in the coastal areas.
In her Facebook account, Yamamoto told residents to save themselves as the town’s river is about to overflow because of the continuing monsoon rains.
Forced evacuation is now being done in barangays Banog, Apurao, Bolanen, Amanwawa, Boloc, Cabaruboc, Ariawa and Borlongan in Bani since late Friday afternoon, July 17.
Yamamoto said the evacuees were brought to the municipal hall and the Catholic church in the town proper for temporary shelter.
In Dagupan City, Mayor Belen Fernandez has convened the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to a meeting to discuss possible rescue operations if water further rises.
In Calasiao town, barangays Longos, San Vicente, Lasip, Talibaew, Gabon and San Miguel are now flooded, rendering the roads impassable to all types of vehicles.
