Pantay-pantay lang: Nancy Binay says Pacquiao’s views deserve as much respect as Vice Ganda’s, Boy Abunda’s opinion
Senator Nancy Binay has taken up the cudgels for boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao amid the flak he has drawn for his caustic remarks on same-sex marriage.
Binay said Pacquiao’s view that those in same-sex relationships are “worse than animals” should be respected even if it is controversial.
She said the boxer’s opinion should be treated in the same regard as the opposing views aired by prominent gay personalities Boy Abunda and Vice Ganda.
“At least with Cong. Manny, ito ‘yung posisyon ko, ngayon kayo ang magdesisyon kung gusto niyo ba akong mahalal. Kasi kung ‘yun ‘yung posisyon ni Vice Ganda saka ni Boy Abunda, respetuhin din natin iyung [posisyon ni Manny],” she said.
With a laugh, the daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay said she will not take a potshot at Vice Ganda for slamming Pacquiao over his comments.
“Kay Vice Ganda, hindi ko nga siya [pinatulan] noong ako noong 2013 eh. Papatulan ko ba siya ngayon?” she said.
The gay comedian and Abunda have expressed their disappointment over Pacquiao’s views, with Vice Ganda saying the boxer should ensure he will not end up in hell, while the host said he was hurt by the lawmaker’s statement.
Pacquiao has since issued an apology— but not after Nike dropped him from its roster of endorsers.
