PAO engages in mudslinging: Our pathologist is better than Garin’s
The Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) has assured that its forensics chief, Dr. Erwin Erfe, is more trustworthy than the one being offered by former Health Secretary Janette Garin.
The PAO made the assurance after Garin asked a Department of Justice (DOJ) panel of prosecutors to accept the sworn affidavit of pathologist Dr. Raymundo Lo which debunked the findings of the autopsies conducted by Erfe’s team over nine children who died after being inoculated with the Dengvaxia anti-dengue vaccine.
“On the contrary, Dr. Lo’s credibility is seriously in question,” read the PAO’s counter-manifestation.
The PAO pointed out Lo has admitted that “he served as Deputy Director for Professional Services at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) from 206 to 2016 and he is currently the Chief of the PCMC Division of Pathology.”
It reminded the PCMC “purchased the experimental vaccine Dengvaxia” and “the purchase of this experimental vaccine while it is still in its clinical trial stage was done in undue haste, highly irregular and highly suspicious.”
“It is not surprising for Dr. Lo to negate the PAO Forensic Team’s findings to the extent of attempting to destroy the credibility of Dr. Erfe, because he was with PCMC during the time of the latter’s purchase of the experimental vaccine Dengvaxia and even until now when the cases have already been filed against his colleagues in the PCMC and the DOH, especially against his boss, Dr. Lecciones, who are the main implementors of the Dengvaxia program,” it stated.
“Dr. Lo would defend Dengvaxia until his death,” it added.
The panel is currently conducting a preliminary investigation over the complaints filed by the parents of the nine dead children against Garin and her co-respondents. The parents are being represented before the DOJ by the PAO.
