Former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte has won a congressional seat in Davao City’s first district and thanked his supporters for their trust and support.
“Sa mga katawhan sa unang distrito sa Davao, dako akong pasalamat sa inyong pagpili kanako isip inyong representante sa Kongreso. I am truly humbled and at the same time honored for your trust and support in me,” he said in a Facebook post.
The President’s eldest also conveyed his gratitude to his family, friends and volunteers for rallying behind his campaign for a better Davao City. He promised not only to be the voice of Davao residents but also the President in the House of Representatives.
Duterte won the congressional race with more than 197,000 votes against his two rivals Rex Labis with 2,121 votes and Susan Ayungaren with 5,118 as of Tuesday night. The Commission on Elections proclaimed him winner in the local polls.
