Paolo Duterte, Mans Carpio must attend Senate probe despite Taguba apology – Trillanes
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV was quick in dismissing any significance of the move of customs broker Mark Taguba apology in linking Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and President Duterte’s son-in-law, Atty. Manases “Manse” Carpio from any involvement in smuggling activities in the country.
“Taguba’s clarification doesn’t change anything. Vice Mayor Paolo and Carpio should still appear before the blue ribbon committee,” he said.
“I can only imagine the pressure being applied on Taguba right now. But the hearing yesterday was seen on national TV so the public knows what he said or did not say. The text messages he read aloud which named Paolo Duterte and Mans Carpio were never forced on him and neither were they fabricated,” he said.
“The effect of his statement is no different from Kian De los Santos’ parents doing the fist salute with Duterte,” the senator said.
Trillanes was referring to the text exchanges of Taguba with a certain “Tita Nanie” who allegedly paved him to be introduced to the so-called Davao Group mentioning the name of the Paolo and Carpio.
In one of the text messages, “Tita Nanie” first referred him to a certain “Jack”, alleged “handler” of the vice mayor and supposed bagman, Davao City Councilor Nilo “Small” Abellera.
Taguba admitted that the “Mance” and “P” in another text message presented to the Senate blue ribbon committee, is supposedly Carpio and Paolo Duterte, respectively. The two, he was told, were alleged to be behind the Davao Group.
