Former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies underscored the need to pass the proposed P10,000 financial aid for Filipino families amid the continuing effect of the COVID pandemic.
Cayetano made the appeal after he and his allies distributed P10,000 cash aid to nearly 200 individuals under the Sampung Libong Pag-Asa campaign during the Labor Day celebration.
“Kailangan pa rin talaga natin itong batas na ito para lahat mabigyan,” said Cayetano referring to House Bill 8597 that was filed on February.
The proposed measure was consolidated into Bayanihan 3 but the provision of P10,000 for all families was not adopted.
Individuals from the poorest of the poor in Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Camarines Sur, Caloocan City, Marikina City, Quezon City, Taguig City, Mandaluyong City, Pateros, Sta. Rosa City in Laguna, Antipolo City in Rizal, and Ormoc City in Leyte received the P10,000 cash aid.
“Mga tunay na tao ito na tunay ang problema, na bago magkaroon ng pandemya ay hirap na at ngayon ay hirap na hirap,” Cayetano added.
Candy vendor Lorna Javierto, who lost her husband to COVID-19 and is now residing in a cemetery in Bulacan, said the cash assistance she received will help her sustain her children.
For construction worker and solo parent Regal Alcones, of Batangas, said the financial assistance will be a big help to his family.
In Marikina, cancer patient Ma. Elena Rabela said she will use the cash aid for her treatment.
Between February and April this year, Cayetano’s group distributed P10,000 each to some 38 beneficiaries from Caloocan City, Pasig City, Quezon City, and Cavite.
