Para di matulad kay Corona: Calida calls petition to oust Sereno an ‘act of kindness’

Solicitor General Jose Calida has assured Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno that she is doing her a favor by filing a quo warranto petition against her.

Calida explained that it would be better for her to be removed from office through quo warranto proceedings than by undergoing impeachment trial.

“The Office of the Solicitor General will not allow you to undergo the indignity that the late Chief Justice Renato Corona suffered at the hands of politicians who unjustly convicted him,” he said on Monday (March 5).

“You do not deserve that,” he assured.

On Monday, Calida filed before the SC a quo warranto petition which sought to declare Sereno’s appointment as chief justice as void since she failed to comply with the requirements when she applied for the position.

“I don’t expect you to appreciate this but believe me, this is an act of kindness to a fellow lawyer,” Calida said.
