Para ‘di na umangkas: PH Air Force buys P1.6B jet for Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte has apparently had enough of renting private or commercial planes for his trips around the country.
Business columnist Victor Agustin shared that the Philippine Air Force has acquired a new Gulfstream G280 jet for its “command-and-control” role.
“Gulfstream has announced that the nearly $32-million jet will be delivered around May 2020, apparently to the 250th Presidential Air Wing,” Agustin wrote Thursday (October 3).
Duterte often uses the Fokker F28 of the 250th Presidential Air Wing for his domestic trips. For international flights, he rides a Learjet 60, Challenger 850 or charters a flight from Philippine Airlines.
According to Gulfstream’s website, the G280 has a range of 3,600 nautical miles and a maximum speed of 893 kilometers per hour.
The business jet can seat up to 10 passengers “in executive style,” according to Gulfstream.
The Israeli aviation company IAI describes the Gulfstream G280 as a jet with the “longest range and fastest speed in super-midsize class.”
