In view of the spread of the novel coronavirus, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Thursday recommended that Cabinet meetings should be held via teleconference.
Medialdea issued the remark after several Cabinet members have placed themselves under self-quarantine after possible exposure to people infected with the disease.
“We just have to stay away from each other. Telepono na lang, text-text, nagki-create ng sistema ngayon na pwede kami mag meet (through) teleconferencing,” according to him.
Those undergoing a 14-day quarantine were Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado, and Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
As of Wednesday, the Philippines has reported 49 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including two deaths: a 44-year-old man from Wuhan and a 67-year-old Filipino woman.
