Parang Presidente uli! GMA mulls becoming Duterte’s adviser after term ends
House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo may not be headed for retirement just yet after her term as congresswoman ends in June 30 this year.
Politiko learned that one of Arroyo’s close advisers have told her to consider becoming an adviser to President Rodrigo Duterte once she’s out of Congress.
Arroyo’s role, the adviser said, will be similar to the “Minister Mentor” post that the late Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew held when his son, Lee Hsien Loong, became Prime Minister in 2004.
It’s also worth noting that incumbent Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad served as a mentor to former Prime Minister Najib Razak and opposition icon Anwar Ibrahim, who’s touted as Mahathir’s successor.
The adviser role for Arroyo is an option as attractive as the Finance Secretary post she is said to be considering.
Arroyo, a US-schooled economist, had vocally criticized Finance Secretary Sonny Dominguez and other economic managers for being too slow to address the rising inflation which affected consumers starting at the second half of 2018.
