Parang sa US! Peralta asks Congress: Let judiciary have marshals
Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta has appealed to Congress to create a security body under the judiciary similar to the United States Marshals.
“we hope that congress would help us,” Peralta said.
At the moment, Peralta said the judiciary still relies on the Philippine National Police (PNP) in protecting magistrates and in investigating the killings of judges.
“There has not been positive results on the outcome of the investigation on killing of judges,” he lamented.
Should the judiciary get its own marshals, Peralta stressed “our marshals can do the work.”
“They are now under us and they also have powers similar to the powers of those agents of the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) and also the PNP (Philippine National Police),” he said.
Recently, Peralta condemned the November 5 killing of Judge Mario Banez who slain by unidentified gunmen during an ambush in San Fernando City, La Union.
