Parang sumusuko na kay Xi Jinping! Robredo wary of Duterte of ‘selling out’ to China
Vice President Leni Robredo has expressed concern over President Rodrigo Duterte’s actions which appear as if he is “selling out” the country to China.
Robredo urged Duterte Tuesday (August 13) to take a tougher stand on China’s aggression in the West Philippine Sea despite considering Chinese President Xi Jinping as a friend.
“I understand why our new administration is more friendly to China, but I think there should be a clear line as far as protecting our territory and sovereignty,” she said,
“The president has made a lot of statements which gives a sense we are acquiescing to what China wants,” the Vice President added.
Robredo’s statement came days after Malacañang said Duterte plans to raise the international arbitral court’s ruling on the South China Sea with Xi in his upcoming trip to China.
The ruling of the Hague-based tribunal invalidated China’s sweeping claim over the South China Sea.
Robredo said the public is afraid that “we might wake up one day and many of our territories are no longer ours.”
Duterte previously warned that China may declare war with the Philippines if the country stands up to Beijing’s perceived “bullying.”
