Party-list bloc gets more than its share of plum House posts, thanks Cayetano
The leader of the 54-member party-list coalition thanked House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for giving the group more than its share of House leadership positions and treating the bloc as a “co-equal member” of Congress.
“This 18th congress, the party-list coalition got the respect that is due us and we are very thankful to Speaker Alan Cayetano for treating us as co-equal members of Congress,” said 1-Pacman Rep. Mikee Romero, who was appointed Deputy Speaker on Tuesday night.
“The party-list coalition now has 4 Deputy Speakers. A proportionate share of 2 Commission on Appointments reps and 1 HRET Rep. 4 deputy majority and minority leaders. Another 4 assistant majority and minority leaders,” he said.
The bloc also has 12 committee chairmanships, which now include major committees such as Games and Amusement, Economic Affairs, Labor and Employment and the Overseas Workers Affairs, he added.
“All our neophytes got 1 or 2 Vice Chairs, which now include Appropriations Committee and the Ways and Means Committee,” Romero said.
“Speaker Cayetano not only gave the PLC a 20 percent proportionate share, but even gave more because of the background and resume of most of the PL members which are best suited and needed by the House of Representatives,” he said.
