Two politikos with a rags to riches story are preferred by voters in Luzon to be the next president and vice president of the Philippines if the 2022 elections were to be held this month.
Results of the survey conducted by RLR Research and Analysis in 10 of Luzon’s vote-rich provinces showed the tandem of Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno as the tandem to beat should they run together.
The Pacquiao-Moreno tandem had a voter preference rating of 30%. In far second was the tandem of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., with 11%. Their rating didn’t improve at 10% if roles were reversed and Marcos ran for president with Duterte as his running mate.
Meanwhile, the tandem of Duterte and Senator Bong Go was preferred by 9% of respondents. A possible team-up by Go and Duterte’s father, President Rodrigo Duterte, was supported by 8% of those who took part in the poll.
A Marcos-Go tandem had a voter preference rating of 7%, while a Pacquiao-Go team-up had 6%.
RLR’s survey was conducted from February 13 to 19, 2021 in the following vote rich Luzon provinces, which had a total of 16.2 million registered voters in the 2019 elections. These are: Pangasinan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon and Rizal.
A total of 2,000 respondents participated in the survey, which had a margin of error of plus/minus 2 percent. RLR said the sample size for each province was allocated proportional to the population size.
RLR’s explanation for teaming up Pacquiao and Moreno: “Since Isko Moreno tops both presidential and both vice presidential race, the only tandem which includes him is the only choice his voters had.”
