The Philippine National Police has encouraged the local government units to pass an ordinance requiring residents to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
This will compel people use face masks or other covering when leaving their homes, said Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the Joint Task Force Corona Virus Shield.
“Malaking tulong po yun na ang ating mga LGUs (local government units) will be enjoined to pass ordinances or resolution para magkaroon po tayo ng pangil. Kasi we can only caution those people who are not wearing masks sa labas ng kanilang residence,” according to him.
Last week, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, who is also spokesman of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), said that IATF Resolution 18 “adopts the policy of mandatory wearing by all residents of face masks, earloop masks, indigenous, reusable or do-it-yourself masks, face shields, handkerchiefs or such other protective equipment that can effectively lessen the transmission of COVID-19” while stepping out of their houses.
Nograles also appealed to people to follow the measure to prevent coronavirus transmission.
