Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Sunday said the presidential task force on media killings will also look into past cases that have remained unsolved.

In an interview over Radyo ng Bayan, Secretary Andanar said the administrative order (AO) that will set up the task force to investigate journalist killings is now up for review.

Once the AO has been approved, Andanar said the task force will recommend to President Duterte that past cases, including the Maguindanao massacre, should be reviewed.

“We will recommend to the President that the past cases should be reviewed. And you know what they say that justice denied is certainly injustice,” the secretary said.

“And, it’s about time. I believe that current Secretary of the Department of Justice also would agree that we should hasten all of the past cases and give justice to those families who have been victimized by the overdue process,” he added.

Secretary Andanar issued the statement following the recent ambush attempt on a radio broadcaster in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

Andanar didn’t say if the task force would look into the assassination of hard hitting Davao City broadcaster Jun Pala in 2003.
