Patikim lang! Carpio to be acting Chief Justice for 8 days

Supreme Court (SC) Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio is set to take over as acting chief justice once Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin retires on Friday (Oct. 18).

Carpio is the most senior magistrate at the SC had previously served as acting chief justice when ousted chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno got removed from her post back in May 2018 and when former chief Teresita Leonardo-De Castro retired in October 2018..

However, Carpio himself is about to retire this October 26.

Should no chief justice has been picked by President Rodrigo Duterte then, the next most senior magistrate, SC Senior Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta, will automatically take over as acting chief justice.

Peralta is already in the shortlist of chief justice candidates which has been submitted by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) to Malacanang.

The others in the shortlist are fellow SC Justices Estela Perlas-Bernabe and Andres Reyes Jr.
