The leadership of the ruling party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) is willing to adopt House Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte as an “honorary member.”
PDP Laban President Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel made the statement on Wednesday after the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte’s eldest son that he’s willing to be adopted by other political entities aside from the National Unity Party (NUP).
Pimentel said he sees no problem with younger Duterte’s wish since he’s a true son of Mindanao where PDP originated as well as being the son of the incumbent party chairman.
“Yes. Adopted meaning honorary. I see no problem with that. Taga Mindanao naman si Pulong eh,” said Pimentel.
Rep. Duterte earlier said that “if being adopted by most, if not all, political parties is to be of service to the people,” then he’s “more than willing to join” all of them.
“To all other political groups out there, I am still up for adoption!” said Duterte.
Pimentel stressed that the administration party remained strong despite the reported defection of about a dozen of its members last Tuesday after deciding to join NUP.
“We are still about 72 to 73 in the House. We are still the dominant party,” said Pimentel.
