Pera-pera lang! Duterte wants Boracay residents to sell titled lands to businessmen
President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to turn Boracay into a land reform area appears to be a thing of the past as he urged residents to sell their titled properties in the future to businessmen.
In a speech before newly elected barangay officials Tuesday (June 12) in Pampanga, Duterte said business owners will be looking for properties to buy because of the island’s limited land area.
“Boracay can only take so much. It’s just a small strip eh. So ibigay ko doon sa mga natives. So by the time na mag-negosyo na and the big business would go in, hawak na nila ang titulo at pwede na nilang ipagbili,” he said.
Duterte said residents of Boracat will not be at a loss since they will be earning from the sale of their lands.
“At least ‘yung binigyan ng pera, binili ‘yung lupa and they sold the land at 300, 400, 1 million. ‘Yung mga laborers noon, at least nakahawak sila. Even for a brief moment in time, meron silang tag-500, 1 million o 800,000. Para sa akin, tabla na,” he said.
The President earlier said the entire Boracay will be placed under land reform so residents can earn from agriculture. He said only a small part of the island will be set aside as a commercial area.
Duterte closed off Boracay to tourists in April to clean it up amid various reports of environmental violations. He vowed to give the island back to its original residents once the rehabilitation is over.
