Peralta breaks into Chief Justice role by joining JBC in screening CA applicants
After being named the country’s top magistrate, Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta on Friday (Oct. 25) joined the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for the first time in screening candidates for the Court of Appeals (CA).
“Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta attends today the fourth day of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) public panel interviews of the candidates for eight vacant positions of Court of Appeals (CA) Justice at the Division Hearing Room, Supreme Court Main Building,” the SC said.
“It is the first time that Chief Justice Peralta, being the chief magistrate, sits as JBC ex oficio chair since he took his oath as the 26th Chief Justice before President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang on Thursday evening,” it added.
The JBC is currently interviewing 67 candidates this October, November and December for eight vacant seats at the CA.
Among the eight empty seats, five were vacated upon the appointments of Justices Ramon Paul Hernando, Rosmari Carrandang, Henri Jean Paul Inting and Amy Lazaro-Javier to the Supreme Court.
While the rest were vacated by retired CA justices Normandie Pizarro, Carmelita Manahan and Sesinando Villon.
