PH most wanted falls: Wife killer Ruben Ecleo Jr. nabbed in Pampanga
Police arrested on Thursday (July 30) the number one person on the Department of Interior and Local Government’s most wanted list, former Dinagat Islands Rep. Ruben Ecleo Jr.
Ecleo was arrested with his driver, Benjie Faran, in San Fernando, Pampanga. He had over P170,000 cash, fake IDs and jewelry in his possession when he was nabbed by authorities.
The former lawmaker was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 over the killing of his wife in Cebu City in 2002. The body of Alona Bacolod-Ecleo found at a ravine in Dalaguete town in Cebu. She was strangled to death.
Ecleo was at large at the time he was convicted by the court over his wife’s killing.
Touted as the “supreme master” of the cult Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, Ecleo was also convicted of graft in 2006 over a number of infrastructure projects in Dinagat Islands when he was mayor of San Jose town in the 1990s.
Ecleo was dropped from the House of Representatives’ rolls in 2012 due to his graft conviction.
