President Duterte’s political party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has reciprocated China’s gesture, donating P15 million to those displaced in the Marawi conflict, by extending financial assistance to landslide victims in Sichuan province.
At least 40 homes were buried under an avalanche of mud and rocks and death toll was estimated at over 140.
“This donation by PDP-Laban is an affirmation of the friendship between the Philippines and China,” Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, PDP-Laban president said in a statement.
There was no mention of the amount that PDP-Laban donated except that it was received by Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua at his residence in a simple ceremony recently.
“Our Chinese friends were there when we needed assistance for the displaced residents of Marawi. It is only proper that Filipinos also offer what we can to help during their time of need,” Department of Energy (DOE) Sec. Alfonso Cusi, also PDP-Laban vice chair, said.
China recently donated P15 million to support the relief operations and rehabilitation efforts in the besieged southern city of Marawi.
