Pimentel a true patriot, exemplary public servant, ex-VP Binay says
Former Vice President Jojo Binay is mourning the death of his friend former Senate President Nene Pimentel.
In a Facebook post, Binay described Pimentel as an exemplary public servant and a true patriot.
Pimentel, one of the country’s finest statesmen, passed away Sunday. He was 85.
“I join the nation in grief as we mourn the passing of former Senate President Nene Pimentel. Nene was an exemplary public servant who championed the empowerment and development of local government units. He authored the Local Government Code, which, to this day, continues to be the one of the fundamental laws governing LGUs,” Binay said.
He also called Pimentel a friend, remembering how they built PDP Laban party.
“More than a senator, Nene was a friend. We started PDP-Laban together, and have fought alongside each other on issues that will protect our people and promote progress,” he said.
He said Pimentel was “a true patriot, whose years of service to the nation tells of a profound love for Filipinos and a deep dedication to ensuring the growth and strengthening of our institutions towards a stronger democracy.”
“Salamat, Nene sa ilang dekada ng paninilbihan sa sambayanang Pilipino. Salamat, Nene sa ilang taon ng pagkakaibigan,” he said.
