Pinakamalala na sa Southeast Asia! Drilon: COVID-19 cases in PH rising due to Duterte’s epic fail COVID-19 strategy
Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon scored the administration Saturday (August 8) over its refusal to change strategies in fighting COVID-19 despite the continued rise in the number of infections in the Philippines.
In a radio interview, Drilon noted Malacañang’s refusal to admit that the Philippines already has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia.
“Alam mo, dini-dispute na nila na number one na tayo. Sa akin, talagang may problema ang kanilang attitude. Unang-una, hindi mo maiwasan na ang ating bansa ay nangunguna sa contamination. Tayo rin ang malaki ang contraction ng ekonomiya,” he said.
Malacañang has downplayed the spike in COVID-19 cases as a result of more aggressive testing.
As of Saturday, the country has 126,885 COVID-19 cases, with 4,226 new infections recorded in a single day.
Drilon said he is alarmed that the positivity rate– or the percentage of people showing infections– has been increasing over the past few months despite the imposition of a lockdown.
“Our effort to prevent the spread of the virus is totally failing, because dumarami nang dumarami. Kung hindi mapigil ang pag-spread, it will continuously result in a lockdown,” he said.
“Puro lang tayo lockdown. Because of the lockdown, our economic situation will worsen – 7.5 million unemployed, 5 million hungry Filipinos at walang pera ang taumbayan,” Drilon added.
