Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday pushed for the fast-tracking of the implementation of the National ID system, nearly two years after it was signed into law.

Lacson agreed with Senate President Vicente Sotto III that the National ID would have been a great help in ensuring COVID-19 aid reaches the rightful recipients.

“I couldn’t agree more, Mr Senate President. We passed it two years ago. They should fast track the implementation, not only because of the COVID-19 but for a lot of many good reasons that will benefit the country,” Lacson, who sponsored the measure in Congress, said in a tweet

Lacson, in sponsoring the National ID measure, said it would not only help fight crime, but also facilitate key government services and transactions.

Earlier Tuesday, Sotto tweeted that the COVID-19 situation is one situation where the National ID system law “plays the pivotal role!”

Sotto had said the National ID system would have addressed problems on database of the amelioration program.

“Problems on database of amelioration program? Now is the TIME for the govt to execute/enforce the NATIONAL ID SYSTEM!” he said.
