Ping: Security, legislative immunity for Cabading, Keith
The Senate may extend security and legislative immunity to at least two key witnesses against corruption at the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Wednesday.
Lacson said he will push for legislative immunity for PhilHealth board member Alejandro Cabading and resigned anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Keith so the Senate probe will be more “freewheeling.”
“I’ll push for that (legislative immunity for Keith and Cabading) para lang maging freewheeling. Ang legislative immunity naman, ang advantage doon, they can talk during the legislative inquiry without sinabi nila na magagamit against them. Yan lang ang advantage doon. Kung under oath pwede gamitin against them. Dati na namin ginagawa para mas tumibay ang loob ng witnesses binibigyan namin ng legislative immunity,” he said.
But he said this will be up to the Senate Committee of the Whole to decide as a body.
He noted Cabading already requested legislative immunity.
As for physical security, he said the Senate can provide them with that.
“If they request meron kaming security unit sa Senado na pwede mag-provide ng physical security sa kanila, and I think they deserve to be physically secured,” he said.
