President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday urged Filipinos to avail of the government’s free COVID-19 vaccination to help the Philippines recover from the pandemic.
“I would like to appeal to all our kababayans, please get vaccinated against Covid-19 and be the government partner in preventing further spread of the disease,” Duterte said in a speech during the arrival ceremony of 487,200 doses of Astrazeneca vaccines in Pasay City.
The Chief Executive assured that the available COVID vaccines, which he described as “key to reopening our society,” are “safe” to use.
He also reminded everyone to still follow health and safety guidelines while waiting for more vaccines to reach the country.
“We may not be out of the woods yet but we are making progress and the end is in sight. With your cooperation, we will overcome this pandemic and ensure the health and safety of everyone,” Duterte said, adding that the government will continue working to ensure vaccines reach all communities.
Also, Duterte thanked the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility for the vaccine supply, as well as vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr., the government’s Covid-19 task force, and the Department of Health for making it possible.
“These vaccines manufactured by the United States, Astrazeneca, in partnership with Oxford University, will further boost our ongoing national vaccine program,” he said.
