Poe: Senate resource persons help clarify franchise issues against ABS-CBN
The senators were able to obtain the answers they need with regard to the allegations against ABS-CBN Corporation “with or without” the help of Solicitor General Jose Calida.
Senator Grace Poe stressed this on Monday adding that she was not disappointed by Calida’s decision to snub the public hearing on the issues hounding the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.
Poe, chairperson of the Senate public services committee, conducted an inquiry on the alleged franchise violations committed by the broadcast network.
Calida earlier filed a quo warranto petition against ABS-CBN due to the latter’s alleged violations of its franchise which is expected to expire on May 4, 2020.
“Kasi wala namang kinalaman ‘yung kaso dito sa paghingi natin ng extension ng license to operate para sa ABS-CBN,” Poe said.
But issues contained in Calida’s quo warranto petition were tackles during the hearing.
“That’s right, but then still those, the resource persons that we had were able to shed light on those questions, with or without the solicitor general present here,” Poe said.
Calida has written Poe of his decision not to attend the inquiry citing the sub judice rule since his petition is pending before the high court.
“Because of the sub judice case that he filed, the quo warranto, I think he thought it’s best not to come here,” Poe said in a briefing.
