POEA cautions single OFWs in UAE vs sexual relationships; Labanan ang tukso
Having sexual relationships is considered a crime in the United Arab Emirates.
This was the reminder of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to overseas Filipino workers, especially those not yet married.
In an advisory, the POEA said Filipino workers planning to stay together in a “live-in” arrangement should get married first (https://www.dole.gov.ph/ro_polo_updates/view/1446).
POEA noted the Sharia Law considers as illegal lovers who are not yet married but are already living together.
Those engaging in such acts may face three to six months’ imprisonment and possible deportation.
Citing data from the Philippine Consulate in Dubai, the POEA said Filipinos are among those presently jailed in the UAE for such an offense.
The consulate also received requests for repatriation from Filipinos in UAE who are not married but have children.
