Police eyeing drug cases as motive for killing of Ilocano judge Bañez- Peralta
The killing of trial court judge Mario Banez may have something to do with two illegal drugs cases he handled, Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta said.
“So they are concentrating on investigating on these two drug cases,” Peralta said about the the ongoing police investigation.
Citing newspaper reports, Peralta said that Banez had received death threats after having acquitted a drug lord and his co-accused.
While, the other drug case Banez was about to terminate it, Peralta added.
Just last Tuesday (Nov. 5) afternoon, Judge Mario Banez was killed during an ambush in San Fernando City, La Union.
Peralta has already condemned the killing and called on investigators to find out who were behind the attack against the magistrate.
“I call on the law enforcement agencies to exert their best efforts and be relentless in their investigation for the immediate apprehension of those responsible for this atrocious and dastardly act,” he urged.
Banez was driving his vehicle on his way home when he was ambushed by unidentified assailants.
He was still rushed ton the Bethany Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
