Politiko fans tell Leni: Just say yes

An overwhelming majority of Politiko fans think Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo should accept former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas’ offer to become his running mate in the 2016 elections.

Politiko’s online poll showed almost 8 in 10 Politiko fans, or 76 percent, want Robredo to run for vice president. A little over 2 in 10 fans, or 23 percent, however, would rather that the Bicolana lawmaker pursue other political plans.

A measly one percent do not care whether or not Robredo agrees to become the administration’s vice presidential candidate.

The survey, conducted from Sept. 18 to 24, had 40, 795 Politiko fans as respondents.

Robredo, widow of former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, has yet to respond to Roxas’ offer more than a week after he spoke to her. However, she has made no secret of her reluctance to run for the second highest office in the land because she still considers herself a greenhorn in politics.

Last week, President Benigno Aquino III personally met with Robredo and her daughters to convince her to run as vice president. The Chief Executive also appealed to the lawmaker’s children to let their mother seek higher office.

The Liberal Party is awaiting Robredo’s response with bated breath as its national executive council is set to to formally nominate Roxas and his running mate at the party’s convention on Sept. 28.
