Pulong backs out of speakership race: Ayaw ni Rody!
Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte announced on Saturday that he was withdrawing his bid for the speakership after speaking to his father who advised him it wasn’t the right time.
“I have personally spoken to President Rodrigo Duterte Thursday night in Davao City regarding my plan to run for speaker of the House of Representatives. We both agreed that this will not be the right time for me to be Speaker and I can still help his administration from the House in a different capacity,” he said in a statement.
The presidential son said he would instead support the candidacy of Hugpong ng Pagbabago’s bet, Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab.
“As President of Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, I will support the bid for speakership of Congressman Isidro Ungab from our sister party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago,” Duterte said.
The President, according to him, has also been fully informed of Ungab’s participation in the race for the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Ungab will be up against Representatives Martin Romualdez of Leyte, Lord Allan Velasco of Marinduque and Alan Peter Cayetano of Taguig.
The next Speaker will be elected when he 18th Congress opens on July 22.
